Virginia professional football players can always file Workers' Compensation Claims in California for a unique reason:

California has a unique workers' compensation law. It allows professional athletes to file workers' compensation claims in California as long as they can show they played one (1) professional game in California. Moreover, the claim is not barred by the statute of limitations if the professional team never advised the athlete of their compensation rights in California. Thus, if a professional athlete feels he has a residual hip or leg problem that results from his playing days and he failed to file a claim in Virginia within the two (2) year statute of limitations provided by Virginia law, he probably can still file a claim in California if he ever played a professional game in that state.

This could be very important if the athlete has any post-concussion malady such as dementia. If so, he or she may be able to file a workers' compensation claim in Californi and obtain compensation and medical care for the dementia or other impairment.

I have been representing claimants in Virginia for over 35 years. In the July 1999 issue of Richmond Magazine I was rated one of the Best Workers' Compensation Lawyers in Central Virginia. In 2003 I received the "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell, its highest rating for lawyers. You can get more information from my websites:

Jerry, there's only one problem with your assertion - the are no professional football players in Virginia, no professional athletes at all in Virginia. You see, Virginia has no professional sports teams and, unfortunately, it never will. That's just the sad state of our state.
